SOPA- 7 months to congratulations? Hmmmm

This past weekend we were surprised when a SOPA professor emailed her congratulations to Dr. Ewoh, the Associate Dean of SOPA.  We weren’t surprised by her congratulations…but rather the timing of her congratulations.  It was 7 months late! :-(

 

Often we joke that SOPA seems to exist in an alternate universe and Covid certainly has slowed us down…..but 7 months to respond to an email?…..the strangest thing was that Dean Kieh jumped on the  same email and offered his congratulations to Dr. Ewoh almost immediately.  Very strange. 

 

Unless of course, this was all planned in advance?  A self-congratulatory, feel-good, group admin pat on the back?  Maybe. 

 

Stranger things have happened in SOPA.

It seems that the School of Public Affairs becomes messier the longer that Dean Kieh and Interim Associate Dean Ewoh remain in power.  It appears that based on a pretext of NASPAA accreditation guidelines Drs. Ewoh, Majumdar, Christophe and Oluponmile collectively voted to remove professors Adams and Robinson from the MPA program permanently .  When questioned as to why these 2 senior and long-standing professors were removed from the MPA program, the 4 professors (all administrators) responded that they were following accreditation guidelines yet the accreditation guidelines do not prescribe an abrupt removal in the middle of the semester.  Moreover Interim Associate Dean Ewoh should not have been present in the meeting and voting against the 2 professors as he represents the Dean's Office and works as Interim Associate Dean .  Department and program meetings are understood to only have tenure and tenure track faculty members in attendance.   We wonder: Does th...

The 4th lawsuit to be served on TSU

A 4th lawsuit was recently filed on June 20, 2019 by a former TSU law school graduate and librarian at the Thurgood Marshall Law School.  The concerns and complaint is much of what we have heard over the years from faculty and students- gender discrimination in the form of unequal and inequitable pay disparity as well as a hostile work environment.  These allegations have been confirmed and verified by the ABA prior to this lawsuit. The law school had been working towards efforts to make the work environment more hospitable as well as more reflective of a harmonious working atmosphere, but we question as to how 2 lawsuits by 2 separate law school employees (see our blog post on November 3, 2018) have now been filed and there are rumors of other law school lawsuits coming soon.  We are aware of at least 1 EEOC complaint at the law school filed very recently who's facts are eerily similar to the current lawsuit being discussed here.  We anticipate this will also turn ...

Has Dean Kieh lost SOPA?

We wonder- will Dean Kieh be replaced very soon?  He seems to have completely lost control over his management and leadership of SOPA and needs to prove his authority and competence by screaming at faculty and staff.   He also seems to have copied on the Provost, HR and General Counsel.  Kieh's own email ironically contradicts his own demand to prevent "mass emails" by CCing HR, Provost and General Counsel.  Interestingly enough, Provost James Ward sent a similar email several years ago and was shortly replaced by then President Lane.   We do wonder: Does history repeat itself at TSU?  We believe so.   Thu 1/20/2022 10:48 AM Dear Colleagues, Warm greetings.
