TSU’s Game of Thrones continues

It’s almost like an episode of Game of Thrones at TSU this past week.  With the sudden announcement by the BOR of King Lane being placed on paid leave pending an investigation’s results, it seems like it’s house cleaning time at TSU.   The board hasn’t given any reason as to why King Lane was placed on paid leave, but there’s been so many rumors now about why, we have to assume some of those rumors are true.

But in other news, the same day the BOR placed King Lane on paid leave, his special assistant, his consigliore, Senor Wendell Williams was fired by acting President Huewitt, possibly under the direction of the BOR.  This was rumored to be true by Saturday but the Houston Chronicle has confirmed it-

The story gets strange, however as it appears Wendell got into some type of personal spat with a BOR member- Wesley Terrell and filed not 1 but 2 harassment complaints against him with Internal Audit because Terrell had allegedly made comments to Wendell’s wife about her jewelry and how she looked in a dress at a school event.  What a weird story and what a weird thing to complain about.    Shouldn't the wife file the complaint instead of Wendell? It's 2020 people!
To file a complaint against a BOR member should be something serious and substantial, not something personal and petty.  Seems like the strangest thing to be upset with someone who (possibly) flirted with your wife?  Is that what Wendell is alleging?  He got jealous?  Maybe.  But if your only witness is your wife and yourself, did it really happen?  Internal Audit will probably never show us the report but we wonder what it contains if indeed it was completed.
Moreover, why is Wendell complaining about how he was terminated?  How should he have been notified?  An email? A text message?  A singing clown? Maybe a small airplane with a banner reading “YOU’RE FIRED WENDELL” trailing behind it?  How does it matter how he was fired as long as he got the message?  What an odd thing to complain about to a reporter.
But we do understand his upset feelings.  Reportedly, Wendell was making a very nice 6 figure salary, a steep jump from his last salary at Lonestar.  He held so many positions in his short time at TSU his business card must be written in pencil. Wendell was listed as the Title IX coordinator for example, but did he have any relevant work experience at all with Title IX?  We believe not.
In all their time at TSU, neither Lane nor Wendell released their CV’s online.  A lot of administrators post their CV’s online so the public can accurately assess and determine if their qualifications are matched with their job description.  This seems to be true of a random assortment of Chairs and Deans we sampled but not of Wendell or Lane.  Why not release your CV?
In other news, rumors are afloat that several of the old guard are quietly resigning or being terminated.  Obviously if you’re the new President, you cannot work with the previous administration.  We feel you Kenneth.  You need new bodyguards.  Hopefully this time you hire individuals who are BOTH competent AND trustworthy.  Difficult we know, but TSU needs competence and trustworthy individuals in positions of power.  We only seem to get 1 of 2.  We anticipate more heads rolling as the week begins.    The good news is that TSU is hiring again.

You made a very good and important point. If Wendell Williams is gone and he no longer serves the University as the Title IX Coordinator, who is ensuring the University's compliance with regard to Title IX or any Federal civil right for that matter?

This is a strange, strange yet interesting story. Keep us updated.
