Temperature checks on campus beginning June 11

On Thursday June 11, TSU faculty and staff were informed that prior to entering their offices, they needed to visit the General Services and have their temperature checked.  On Friday they were informed that police would be stationed outside buildings prior to allowing people to enter beginning June 22.

We have to wonder and strongly question.....the fall semester hasn't even begun yet.....and we already are at the point of doing temperature checks prior to entering buildings even with significantly less people on campus?

Right now in the summer, we have very few faculty, admin and staff on campus.  Almost no students assuming all our classes are online.  So these temperature checks are manageable.....temporarily.  But when the fall semester hits and with enrollment possibly increasing or staying at the same levels (we hope).....will TSU really be able to provide the same standard of rigorous care and safety while continuing to do lecture style teaching, campus activities, office hours, i.e. the whole campus experience?  Don't we have Homecoming in October?  We are not so confident.  A threat of possible resurgence of coronavirus aka a second or third wave is there.

Perhaps it is best if TSU sticks with online classes for the fall semester as this may be most cost effective and safe.  The increased costs of temperature checks, disinfectant, masks, gloves, sanitizer (do faculty, staff admin and students bring their own masks or?) and the time cost for increased checks and increased stress for everyone...maybe this is not a good idea Mr. President.

The deadlines released by the President office "Return to Tigerland" have already been pushed back from June 15 to June 22.  Why are we pushing so hard to bring back students, faculty, alumni and staff when we could easily move most classes online (possibly excluding some labs)?  Now would be the perfect time for the President to consider the idea of creating a new Online School when considering "realignment" as he mentioned several weeks ago.
